We recently hosted Green Party MP Hon Julie Anne Genter and list member Scott Willis for a guided tour of ALEXCO.

The visit was a chance to show what sits behind New Zealand’s aluminium extrusion sector: skilled local jobs, advanced manufacturing, customer-led innovation, and productive capability that supports businesses across the country.

ALEXCO directly employs more than 30 people, but its impact extends well beyond its own workforce.

The plant supports a wide network of suppliers, contractors, freight providers, trades, maintenance firms, tooling providers, packaging suppliers, utilities, and professional services.

It also supplies more than 100 New Zealand business customers each year — from small firms to larger manufacturers, fabricators, installers, construction suppliers, engineering businesses, and trade service providers.

When you look across the full value chain, a 30-person extrusion plant like ALEXCO can support well over 100 additional jobs upstream and downstream in the wider economy.

This story is repeated with all our members and all the other productive manufacturing enterprises across the mōtu. It’s why they matter. They invest capital, build skills, support local communities, and help keep manufacturing capability here in New Zealand.
